Charlize Theron’s Brutal R-Rated Action Movie Coming to HBO Max

With the holiday season just around the corner, HBO Max is ready with a lineup of films and TV shows, hitting the platform very soon. Among HBO Originals, Adult Swim specials, classic Hollywood blockbusters, and anime titles is Charlize Theron‘s 2017 R-rated action film, Atomic Blonde, streaming on HBO Max starting December 2025.

Atomic Blonde to stream on HBO Max in December

Atomic Blonde will become available to stream on HBO Max starting Monday, December 1, giving fans a chance to revisit this action-packed thriller, which initially came out more than eight years ago.

The film, directed by David Leitch, stars Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton, an MI6 spy sent to Berlin in 1989. She sets out to retrieve a stolen list of secret agents and prevent it from being smuggled into the West. The film, adapted from Antony Johnston’s 2012 graphic novel The Coldest City, originally carried the same title, but the filmmakers later renamed it to Atomic Blonde. The film also stars James McAvoy as David Percival, Sofia Boutella as Delphine, John Goodman as Emmett Kurzfeld, and Toby Jones as Eric Gray, among others.

Now well-known for his action-packed Hollywood blockbusters like Deadpool 2, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Bullet Train, and The Fall Guy, director David Leitch previously co-directed the 2014 hit John Wick, which set him up with immense experience for his future films. He later stepped away from the John Wick franchise to focus on his own projects, which have since become a long list of hits.

While Atomic Blonde is one of the additions to HBO Max’s December catalog, the platform also includes other releases across a wide range of genres. The December lineup will include timeless blockbusters and modern hits like Girls Trip, Wedding Crashers, X‑Men First Class, Battle of the Sexes, and Miss Congeniality, among others. Additionally, classic Hollywood titles like Key Largo and Little Caesar will also make their way to the platform this holiday season.
