Furious 7’s Ending Before Paul Walker’s Death Was Very Different

A recent update has brought renewed attention to the original plans for Furious 7, placing its early ending concepts back into focus. The reported information outlines how the film’s conclusion looked before major changes reshaped it. Interest has grown as new details highlight how different the storyline once was.

How Furious 7’s ending was changed after Paul Walker’s demise

Furious 7’s production team changed the original ending after Paul Walker‘s death in 2013. According to Barry Hertz’s book Welcome To The Family, the filmmakers originally planned for Dom, Brian, and the team to celebrate at Neptune’s Net, the Malibu location from the first film. Dom would have destroyed the “God’s Eye” device under his boot, declaring it too powerful for anyone to possess.

The team would have thrown a knife at a map to choose their next destination, symbolizing ongoing adventures. Dom would have crumpled a government commendation and tossed it out the window as the team drove off along the Pacific Coast Highway, and the score rose into the credits. This ending aimed to conclude a traditional sequel and establish the crew as officially recognized operatives.

However, after Walker’s passing, the filmmakers rewrote the entire third act. They replaced the planned conclusion with a farewell to Walker’s character. The new ending shows Dom and Brian parting at a highway fork, accompanied by “See You Again” by Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.

The revised ending excludes the destruction of the God’s Eye, which later returns in The Fate of the Furious and Fast X. The filmmakers shifted focus to Brian’s retirement and family life rather than setting up another mission.

To finish Walker’s scenes, the team used CGI and his brothers Caleb and Cody as body doubles. With Walker’s family’s approval, the filmmakers prioritized a respectful farewell over continuing the original narrative. The final cut turned into both a revised storyline and a tribute.
