Peacock Adds 13 Beloved Christmas Movies, Including Die Hard, in December
Peacock has officially announced that there will be thirteen Christmas movies included in its upcoming slate this December. One of these movies is the iconic action thriller Die Hard. Even though it wasn’t initially meant for the holiday season, the 1988 film has been widely considered by fans as a Christmas movie due to its setting.
Die Hard was directed by Predator’s John McTiernan from a screenplay written by Jeb Stuart and Steven E. de Souza. It was also based on Roderick Thorp’s 1979 novel Nothing Lasts Forever. The movie was led by Bruce Willis as New York City detective John McClane, who goes up against terrorist leader Hans Gruber, played by Harry Potter vet Alan Rickman. Nearly four decades since its debut, the 1988 film has maintained its Certified Fresh score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Due to its pop culture success, the franchise spawned four more sequels.
“New York City policeman John McClane is visiting his estranged wife on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for,” reads Die Hard’s synopsis. “But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon, McClane realizes that there’s no one to save the hostages — but him.”
