Brendan Fraser Clarifies The Mummy 4 Status Amid Soaring Hype

Brendan Fraser has finally opened up about The Mummy 4, hinting that the long-awaited sequel may be on the horizon. With fan excitement stronger than ever and Universal reportedly developing a new installment, the adventure franchise seems ready to rise from the tomb once more.

Brendan Fraser addresses The Mummy 4 status

Brendan Fraser recently spoke to Deadline and addressed the growing buzz surrounding The Mummy 4. When asked directly, “I am hearing you are doing Mummy again. Rick’s coming back,” he didn’t shut the door on the idea. Instead, he replied, “Hey, anything’s possible at this point. It is speculation, and I would love to tell you…I would love to answer more about that. But my lips are kind of sealed. I am sorry, but I want you to know that there is a definite fan base.”

His careful wording fueled speculation, but it also reaffirmed the immense demand for his return as Rick O’Connell. The interviewer agreed, recalling a film festival in Fraser’s hometown of Indianapolis, where audiences erupted when he arrived. Fraser laughed about that memory, adding, “The fan convention that I just came from in Minnesota… we were there to sign autographs, meet fans, but we did have a question-answer on stage in front of 3000 attendees and I thought we were rockstars too so much so like I walked off stage thinking: ‘Man I am gonna get a personality hangover out of those.’ That was a lot of love.”

In an earlier interview with the Associated Press, Brendan Fraser had gone even further, openly acknowledging that he had waited two decades to make the version of The Mummy he had always envisioned. “The one I wanted to make was never made,” he said while reflecting on the franchise that began in 1999 and continued through 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Universal is reportedly developing The Mummy 4 with Fraser returning as the lead. Rachel Weisz, who featured in the first two films, is also expected to return. (via Variety)
