Zootopia 2 Director Teases ‘Very Different Style’ for Future New Disney Animated Movie

Walt Disney Animation Studios is readying to release a new, original movie in a few years. According to Zootopia 2 director Jared Bush, the film will be different from what fans have seen from them before.

What did Jared Bush say about Disney’s upcoming original animated movie?

Speaking to New York Times in a recent interview, Bush was asked about the company’s movie plans for 2028. Following Zootopia 2, Disney will release Hexed in 2026, followed by Frozen 3 in 2027, and then an as-of-yet untitled, unknown movie in 2028. That 2028 movie, Bush said, will feature a style “very different” than anything Disney has done before, and also teased that it won’t feature a “human world.”

“It’s not a human world. It’s a very different style than we usually do,” teased Bush. When asked if maybe it will broach into the world and style of anime, Bush wouldn’t answer, though he did say he thinks “a lot” about the evolution of art styles.

While that’s a few years away, Disney is currently celebrating the release of Zootopia 2. “After cracking the biggest case in Zootopia’s history, rookie cops Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde find their partnership isn’t as solid as they thought when Chief Bogo orders them to join the Partners in Crisis counseling program. But it doesn’t take long for their partnership to be put to the ultimate test when they find themselves on the twisting trail of a mystery tied to the arrival of a venomous snake in the animal metropolis,” reads the official synopsis.

Encanto filmmakers Jared Bush and Byron Howard co-directed Zootopia 2, with Bush also writing the screenplay and Yvett Merino producing the movie. The sequel will also feature the return of Shakira as Gazelle, Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Bonnie Hunt as Bonnie Hopps, Don Lake as Stu Hopps, Nate Torrence as Clawhauser, Jenny Slate as Bellwether, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, Maurice LaMarche as Mr. Big, Leah Latham as Fru Fru, Josh Dallas as Frantic Pig, Tommy Chong as Yax, and Mark Smith as Officer McHorn.

Zootopia 2 arrives in theaters now.
