Hangover Director’s DC Movie To Stream on Prime Video Soon

Joker: Folie à Deux, the sequel to the Oscar-winning 2019 film Joker, is set to release on Prime Video in December 2025. Despite not garnering the same critical or commercial success as the first film, the sequel generated a lot of discussion among fans when it premiered and will now be available to a wider audience.

Joker: Folie à Deux to stream on Prime Video in December

Joker: Folie à Deux, which stars Lady Gaga alongside Joaquin Phoenix as he reprises his Oscar-winning title role, is set to premiere on Prime Video on December 16, 2025, adding to the platform’s stacked slate.

The Todd Phillips film premiered in theaters on October 4, 2025, but failed to meet the high expectations of fans. While the sequel had a budget of nearly $200 million, it earned only $207.5 million worldwide, making it a box office failure. Critics also largely responded negatively toward the film, and it ended up getting nominated for seven Golden Raspberry Awards, winning two.

Due to the negative press, many skipped the theatrical release and caught the film on Max, where it premiered on December 13, 2024. Now, fans who do not have an HBO Max subscription but still want to check out the sequel can catch it on Prime Video.

Joker: Folie à Deux attempted something different for comic book movies by blending its iconic DC characters with the musical genre.

The synopsis for the movie reads, “Struggling with his dual identity, failed comedian Arthur Fleck stumbles upon true love while incarcerated at Arkham State Hospital. Awaiting trial for the murder of five people, Fleck soon discovers the music that’s always been inside him.”

The cast of the movie also includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beetz, Steve Coogan, Harry Lawtey, and Leigh Gill.

Apart from Joker: Folie à Deux, Prime Video has several other major titles coming in December, including Gareth Edwards’ The Creator, Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight, and Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme.
