Batman v Superman’s Controversial Action Scene Gets BTS Look
A new behind-the-scenes clip taken from the set of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has emerged online.
Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was released in 2016. Directed by Zack Snyder, the film is the second entry in the DCEU following 2013’s Man of Steel. The DCEU officially ended in 2023 with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as James Gunn and Peter Safran have now launched a new shared DC universe titled the DCU.
What is happening in the Batman v Superman scene?
The first half of Batman v Superman features a dream sequence, commonly referred to as the Nightmare scene, where Ben Affleck‘s Bruce Wayne/Batman gets a glimpse at either the future or a potential future reality. It sees Batman in a post-apocalyptic world and has proved to be controversial as it sees the Dark Knight, who famously has a “no kill” rule, murder several protagonists in cold blood. Following the fight, Batman is then taken to see Henry Cavill’s Superman, who appears to have turned evil.
Check out the behind-the-scenes clip showing how cinematographer Larry Fong, Snyder, and the rest of his team filmed the Nightmare sequence, via Fong on Twitter, below (watch more trailers and clips):
Per The Hollywood Reporter, “Snyder said the [Knightmare] sequence is a byproduct of the Flash (Ezra Miller) using the cosmic treadmill and creating a rift in time. There was going to be scene in a later film in which we would have seen Bruce Wayne and Cyborg deliberating on what point to send the Flash back to so that he can prevent Lois’ death. Snyder revealed that it is Lois Lane’s death that leaves Superman open to being infected by Darkseid’s Anti-Life Equation, and the incident that would have led to the Knightmare future the Justice League would have attempted to avoid.”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
