The Mummy 4 Script Is What Brendan Fraser Has Wanted to Make for 20 Years
Brendan Fraser is as excited for The Mummy 4 as all of the fans of the franchise are.
Fraser first played Rick O’Connell in 1999’s The Mummy, which was directed by Stephen Sommers. The film quickly proved to be a hit for Universal Pictures and launched a franchise that includes 2001’s The Mummy Returns and 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. There was also a 2002 spin-off movie, The Scorpion King starring Dwayne Johnson, that spawned its own franchise which has so far had four additional films.
Earlier this month, it was announced that The Mummy 4 is officially in development. Fraser and Rachel Weisz are both expected to reprise their respective roles as Rick and Evelyn, while the film will be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
What did Brendan Fraser say about The Mummy 4?
Speaking with AP News, Fraser was asked about The Mummy 4 and if he ever thought this new film would come to fruition, given that it’s been some time since the last Mummy movie that he starred in.
“The one I wanted to make was never made,” Fraser said. “The third one was a model of … how can I say this to the AP reporter? NBC had the rights to broadcast the Olympics that year. So they put two together and we went to China. Working in Shanghai, an incredible experience. I’m proud of the third one because I think it’s a good standalone movie. We picked up and did what we do with a different crew on deck and gave it our best shot. But the one I wanted to make is forthcoming. And I’ve been waiting 20 years for this call. Sometimes it was loud, sometimes it was a faint telegraph. Now? It’s time to give the fans what they want.”
Plot details for The Mummy 4 remain, ahem, under wraps at this time. A release date has not been set.
