What happens in the Hoppers trailer?

The Hoppers trailer introduces audiences to Mabel, a woman who is able to transport her consciousness into a robotic beaver. Upon doing so, she then learns about a construction company’s plans to destroy a local animal habitat, which forces her to take action.

The official synopsis for the movie reads, “In Hoppers, scientists have discovered how to ‘hop’ human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals! Using the new technology, Mabel (Piper Curda) will uncover mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.”

The voice cast also includes Meryl Streep as Insect Queen, Dave Franco as Titus, Kathy Najimy as Dr. Sam, Eduardo Franco as Loaf, Melissa Villaseñor as Ellen, Ego Nwodim as Fish Queen, Vanessa Bayer as Diane, Sam Richardson as Conner, Aparna Nancherla as Nisha, Nichole Sakura as Reptile Queens, Isiah Whitlock Jr. as Bird King, Steve Purcell as Amphibian King, Karen Huie as Grandma Tanaka, Tom Law as Tom Lizard, Bobby Moynihan as King George, and Jon Hamm as Mayor Jerry.

Chong previously told Variety that he’s fully aware the premise of the movie is “a little bit crazy.” He continued, “There are going to be things that are a little bit tongue-in-cheek, and it’s going to be out there and chaotic.”

Chong also said of Hamm and Moynihan’s casting, “[Hamm] is hilarious. People know him from Mad Men, but his comedy chops are incredible. And to be honest, he’s very brave when it comes to comedy. We have him do some pretty crazy stuff in our movies…Having worked with Bobby already, I felt so lucky to be able to slip back into that relationship and pick up where we left off. He’s just so naturally funny and charming and sweet. I would just say across the board, everyone on our cast is really funny.”

Hoppers will be released in United States theaters on March 6, 2026.
