Toy Story 5 Director Responds to Quentin Tarantino’s Complaint

Toy Story 5 director and Pixar legend Andrew Stanton recently responded to Quentin Tarantino’s complaints about the franchise’s continuation.

What did Toy Story 5’s director say about Quentin Tarantino’s comments?

Speaking to Empire Magazine, Stanton opened up about the talks of concerns that a fifth movie would continue to devalue the franchise. Specifically, Stanton addressed those who might be unhappy the franchise has continued beyond 2010’s Toy Story 3, which seemed to end the franchise in a definitive manner.

“So 3 was the end… of the Andy years,” said Stanton. “Nobody’s being robbed of their trilogy. They can have that and never watch another if they don’t want to. But I’ve always loved how this world allows us to embrace time and change. There’s no promise that it stays in amber.”

While Stanton didn’t name check Tarantino specifically, the legendary director has been vocal about his love of Toy Story 3, and his insistence to never watch the fourth movie.

“In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent,” said Tarantino in 2024. “It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. And if you’ve seen the other two, it’s just devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something they did a fourth, and I have no desire to see it. You literally ended the story as perfect as you could, so no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done.”

The synopsis for Toy Story 5 reads, “The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, and this time around it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head to head with this all-new threat to playtime.”

Toy Story 5 hits theaters on June 19, 2026. Although there are rumors that more movies are in the works, at this time, there’s been no confirmation or announcement from Disney or Pixar regarding any additional Toy Story movies; that being said, Pixar filmmaker and CCO Pete Doctor recently said the company plans on releasing one original film followed by one sequel in the years to come.
