Superman: DCU Movie Set Photos Include a Funny Easter Egg
Some new Superman set photos reveal a surprising connection shared between the titular DCU superhero and a villainous character.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures’ Superman was released in United States theaters this past July. Directed by James Gunn, the movie stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. A follow-up movie, titled Man of Tomorrow, is now in development and is dated for 2027.
What do we see in the Superman set photos?
On Threads, Gunn shared some behind-the-scenes photos taken from the set of Superman. More specifically, the photos were taken on the Moravian Palace set, which is where Zlatko Burić’s Vasil Ghurkos character resides.
The photos noticeably feature images of squirrels, which is relevant because there’s a scene elsewhere in Superman where Kal-El saves a squirrel from being crushed. Thus, it appears that both Clark Kent and Vasil Ghurkos are big fans of the furry little creatures.

The synopsis for Superman reads, “Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
The cast of the movie further includes Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, and more.
Superman is now available to stream on HBO Max. Man of Tomorrow will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
