David Trailer Showcases Animated Musical Movie Adaptation of Bible

Angel has shared the official trailer for David, the upcoming animated musical drama about the Biblical story of the shepherd boy who became king. The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 19, 2025.

“From the songs of his mother’s heart to the whispers of a faithful God, David’s story begins in quiet devotion. When the giant Goliath rises to terrorize a nation, a young shepherd armed with only a sling, a few stones, and unshakable faith steps forward,” reads the official synopsis. “Pursued by power and driven by purpose, his journey tests the limits of loyalty, love, and courage—culminating in a battle not just for a crown, but for the soul of a kingdom.”

The video chronicles David’s rise from a young shepherd boy who defeated a giant with a slingshot to fulfilling his destiny of becoming the people’s king. The trailer highlights the obstacles he’ll face against a tyrannical king, who has grown jealous of the people’s love for David. It also offers a preview of some of the songs that will be featured in the musical movie. It is based on one of the stories from the Book of Samuel in the Bible’s Old Testament.

“The official trailer captures the excitement and emotion at the heart of DAVID,” Angel executive Brandon Purdie said in a statement. “The film has already pre-sold millions in tickets, surpassing Angel’s previous pre-sales records, and theater chains across the country are expressing tremendous excitement. We can’t wait to share this animated musical with audiences nationwide.”

The movie is directed by Phil Cunningham and Brent Dawes, with Dawes, Kyle Portbury, and Sam Wilson co-writing the screenplay. It will feature the voices of Grammy nominee Phil Wickham, Brandon Engman (Bull Run), Brian Stivale (The Garden), and Miri Mesika (Three Mothers). Composer Joseph Trapanese (The Greatest Showman) is also providing the movie’s music.
