Former James Bond Actor Talks Return Possibilities in Amazon Reboot

Amid casting rumors for the role of the new James Bond in Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming reboot of the franchise, Pierce Brosnan has once again addressed the possibility of taking up the mantle of Agent 007 for the second time. In a recent interview, the actor discussed the possibility of returning to the iconic spy franchise, offering a mixed response that left fans dismayed.

Pierce Brosnan says playing James Bond is ‘another man’s job’ now

While speaking with British GQ as part of their Men of the Year 2025 series, Brosnan definitively stated that he won’t be reprising the role of James Bond in Amazon’s forthcoming reboot of the film series.

“That’s another man’s job,” the Hollywood veteran said. Nevertheless, Brosnan did flirt with the idea of coming back to the James Bond franchise in some other capacity, admitting that featuring in the Denis Villeneuve-helmed project appears to be an enticing prospect. “Of course, people ask about Bond – ‘would you?’ and whatever… But the possibilities of working within that film [are] entertaining,” he remarked.

“Sometimes you entertain it and sometimes you just move on, the Hollywood veteran said. “It just really gets in the way of life…It just means that I’ve said everything I have to say about it.”

This sentiment sits in line with what Brosnan had said about returning as James Bond in an interview with Radio Times earlier this year. “I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs. Bald caps, prosthetics… who knows?” the two-time Golden Globe nominee said at the time.

Additionally, Brosnan has expressed interest in portraying a villain in the next James Bond film. When asked if he’d be willing to accept a negative role in the franchise in an April 2025 interview with Men’s Journal, the actor responded, “Could be, I mean, why not? It’s entertainment. People would love it.”

At the time of writing, Denis Villeneuve and Amazon have yet to announce the actor who will succeed Daniel Craig as the next 007.
