Wicked: For Good Reviews & Rotten Tomatoes Score Disappoint Fans
Wicked: For Good is set to release this week, and with reviews beginning to come in, fans might be disappointed to hear the film is scoring lower than its predecessor.
What are the Wicked: For Good reviews saying?
On Rotten Tomatoes, Wicked: For Good has debuted to a 74% score. While still earning a “fresh” rating, the film’s score is still surprisingly lower than the original. 2024’s Wicked debuted to an 88% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a whopping 95% audience rating. It’s worth noting that Wicked’s sequel also has an extremely high audience score, with the film earning a 97% score.
As far as critical reviews go, Slant Magazine’s Dan Rubins was not a fan, calling the movie “stretched out, breathless, and never really emotionally affecting.” IndieWire’s Kate Erbland wasn’t as critical, noting that “the things that missed the mark the first time” still do, while the things that worked in Wicked also do.
William Bibbiani of TheWrap was less impressed, though, calling the movie the most disappointing “Part Two” since “the second half of Andy Muschietti’s ‘It.’ At least nobody projectile vomits on Jeff Goldblum to the tune of Juice Newton’s ‘Angel of the Morning.'” The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney had a positive take, noting that star Ariana Grande “floods it with so much feeling that it humanizes and enriches the character and, by extension, the whole movie.”
Wicked: For Good is set to release on November 21, 2025. The film stars Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Marissa Bode, Ethan Slater, Michelle Yeoh, Sharon D. Clarke, Bowen Yang, Bronwyn James, and Colman Domingo.
