Tom Cruise’s Next Movie Gets First Set Photo From Collab With Oscar Winner

Tom Cruise has shared a photo from the set of his upcoming movie with Oscar-winning director Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

In a post shared to his X account, Cruise is standing next to Iñárritu during a rehearsal for their untitled movie.

“Today, I share the first photo taken last year during a rehearsal on the set of my new film with Alejandro G. Iñárritu,” Cruise wrote in the caption. “Alejandro, 25 years ago, I watched your first film, the classic Amores Perros. This weekend, 25 years later, I was deeply moved to have been presented the Honorary Oscar by you, my dear friend. I cannot wait to share our new film with you all next year!”

Who is involved with Tom Cruise in his next movie?

Cruise is the star of Iñárritu’s next movie, which has been described as a black comedy. The logline reads: “The film follows the most powerful man in the world, who tries to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

Besides Cruise, the untitled film’s ensemble includes Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, Burn Gorman, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.

Iñárritu directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sabina Berman, Alexander Dinelaris Jr., and Nicolás Giacobone. Iñárritu, Cruise, and Mary Parent will produce for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. The movie is scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. It will also be shown in IMAX.

The Iñárritu movie is Cruise’s first role outside of the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises in nearly a decade. 2017’s American Made is the last time Cruise didn’t play Ethan Hunt or Pete Mitchell.

Cruise recently received an Honorary Oscar at the 16th Annual Governors Awards on November 16, 2025. Iñárritu presented Cruise with the award.
