The Mandalorian and Grogu Director Teases Beloved Star Wars Character’s Return
Din Djarin and his sidekick, Grogu, will head to the big screen next year in The Mandalorian and Grogu. For their latest mission, the Mandalorian and Grogu will team with new allies, including this fan-favorite character from another Star Wars show.
What fan-favorite character will appear in The Mandalorian and Grogu?
According to director Jon Favreau, Din is a different person, one who wants to work with, not against, the New Republic.
“The Mandalorian has changed his priorities,” Favreau said in an interview with Empire Magazine. “One of the last things we say [in Season 3] is, like, ‘I don’t want to go out there and just be a hired gun. I want to work for the good guys.’”
One of the new characters Mando will work with is Zeb Orrelios, a Lasat who is best known for his role in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Zeb is a Lasat honor guard who joined the rebellion against the Empire. Zeb also briefly appeared in The Mandalorian Season 3.
“Now we get to really have fun with him,” Favreau said about Zeb’s inclusion in the movie. “He’s such a compelling character, even if you’ve never seen Rebels, between the voice, the swagger, and the physical ability.”
Pedro Pascal reprises his role as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian. Other cast members include Sigourney Weaver as Ward and Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt.
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy,” the official synopsis reads. “As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu.”
Favreau directs The Mandalorian and Grogu from a screenplay he co-wrote with Dave Filoni. Favreau and Filoni will produce alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Ian Bryce. The movie is a continuation of The Mandalorian series on Disney+.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will open in theaters on May 22, 2026.
