Dune 3’s Timothée Chalamet Gives Major Update on Denis Villeneuve Movie
Timothée Chalamet has offered a brief update on the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune saga, addressing renewed curiosity about the film’s progress. He hinted that his work on the project has reached an important milestone, easing speculation without giving away full details.
Timothée Chalamet reveals he has wrapped filming for Dune 3
Chalamet recently revealed that he finished filming the third installment of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune trilogy, stating he “wrapped Dune 3 four days ago” during a conversation with Adam Sandler, as captured by The Hollywood Reporter.
He discussed his portrayal of Paul Atreides and noted, “It’s moving to me that something as out there as Dune… has taken a personal resonance for me.” Chalamet shared the update while speaking at Fairfax High School in Los Angeles.
He expanded on the experience by explaining that he became emotional watching a scene from Dune: Part Two, adding, “I’m tearing up watching that scene. I’ve grown up through those movies.” The conversation with Sandler was part of Vanity Fair Scene Selection Live, where the two actors reviewed scenes from their careers and answered questions from an audience of students and guild voters.
Chalamet’s filming update aligns with earlier reporting that Dune: Part Three began production in July 2025. The movie completed around four months of shooting. Its final title is said to be Dune: Part Three, not Dune: Messiah.
The film adapts Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel and may also use material from Children of Dune. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke joined the cast as Leto II and Ghanima. Their casting signals a time jump that moves the story beyond the ending of Dune: Messiah.
During the Fairfax High School event, Chalamet and Sandler discussed Saturday Night Live, their past collaborations, and their work with director Josh Safdie. They later participated in a two-on-two basketball game with students.
Dune: Part Three is scheduled for December 18, 2026.
