Star Wars Fan Flies Plane Over Disney HQ Demanding Ben Solo Movie

Star Wars fans have literally taken to the skies to convince Disney that they really want the scrapped Ben Solo movie. Since Adam Driver revealed in an interview that Disney shut down a spin-off idea about Ben Solo, fans have been actively campaigning for the project. Although several weeks have passed since the initial report, interest in the canceled film seems to have only grown.

Demand for Star Wars Ben Solo movie reaches the streets and skies

A plane flew over the Burbank headquarters of Disney on Thursday at 11 a.m. local time. The plane had a banner trailing it, reading, “Shareholders Want The Hunt for Ben Solo.” Reportedly, The Hunt for Ben Solo was the planned name of the canceled project. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

In October, Driver said in an interview with the Associated Press that he and filmmaker Steven Soderbergh worked on a Ben Solo project, which would take place after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019), in which Driver’s character died. Soderbergh developed a story with screenwriter Rebecca Blunt. When Lucasfilm heard the pitch, they expressed interest, prompting the team to bring in Scott Z. Burns to pen a script. Driver described the resulting screenplay as “one of the coolest (expletive) scripts I had ever been a part of.”

The team then took the script to Lucasfilm. “They loved the idea,” Driver added. “They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it.” However, when they approached Disney, executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman turned it down as “they didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive.” Driver continued, “And that was that.”

Ben Solo / Kylo Ren remains a popular character among sections of Star Wars fans, and these enthusiasts have since gone to great lengths to show Disney their interest in the project. This includes fake missing person posters featuring Driver’s character appearing in New York City and Los Angeles. The banner seems to be the most recent of these attempts. However, at the time of this article’s composition, The Hunt for Ben Solo remains a canceled project.
