Predator: Badlands director Dan Trachtenberg recently shared the words of wisdom that James Cameron gave to him that helped him with the film. Dan Trachtenberg reveals the sage advice James Cameron gave him
While speaking to Variety‘s Adam B. Vary, Dan Trachtenberg explained why James Cameron’s name came up during Predator: Badlands’ end credits.
The former podcast host noted that while he was shooting Badlands in Auckland, New Zealand, Cameron was filming Avatar 3 in Wellington, and Cameron invited Trachtenberg to the set of the Avatar threequel. While there, Trachtenberg shared his plans for Badlands with Cameron.
“I pitched him what we were doing with the movie, this brand new process having a guy in a prosthetic suit, and then visual effects are taking over for his face,” Trachtenberg said before adding, “Then we reconvened at dinner, and when he sat down, he said, ‘I was thinking about what you’re doing on the way over here. And I gotta tell you, I think it’s going to work.’ That blew wind in my sails all the way back to Auckland.”
Having already lifted Trachtenberg’s spirits, the Titanic director shared another piece of encouragement when the former sent him an almost-finished version of Predator: Badlands. “He wrote me a note back that said many things, and one of them was, ‘I have to tell you, when I first heard about what you’re doing, I did not think it was going to work. But holy crap, you really pulled it off,'” the 44-year-old director disclosed. “And that put wind in my sails.”
Cameron’s words have proven to be correct as Predator: Badlands has garnered stellar reviews since its release, recording an 85% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes.
