Superman Spin-off Update Reveals TV Show’s Title, Creative Team

One of the Superman spin-off TV shows has taken a major step forward.

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios’ Superman movie was released in July 2025. Directed by James Gunn, the DCU film stars David Corenswet as the titular superhero, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. A follow-up film, Man of Tomorrow, is now in development.

Following the release of Superman, it was reported that Gunn and DC were considering making spin-off shows revolving around some of Superman’s supporting characters, such as Mister Terrific or Jimmy Olsen.

What is the update on the Superman TV spin-off show?

Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, the Jimmy Olsen spin-off show is officially moving forward as Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda, a duo best known for creating Netflix’s American Vandal, will be writing and executive producing the project. They will also both serve as showrunners.

Skyler Gisondo is expected to reprise his role as Jimmy Olsen in the spin-off show — which, according to Variety, has been titled DC Crime.

“The concept centers on Olsen, as well as other Daily Planet reporters (minus Lois Lane and Clark Kent), who tackle cases involving super-powered villains,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article states. “Gorilla Grodd would be in the spotlight for the season.  Grodd is a super-intelligent evil ape who rules a secret African city named Gorilla City. The character is a key antagonist for the Flash, and first appeared in an issue of the Scarlet Speedster’s comics back in 1959. He was created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino.”

Gunn and Peter Safran will both serve as executive producers on the project alongside Perrault and Yacenda, while Gialyin Vaisman will oversee for DC.

A premiere date for the Superman spin-off TV show DC Crime has not yet been announced. Superman, meanwhile, is currently available to stream on HBO Max, while Man of Tomorrow arrives in 2027.
