Why X-Men’s Fan-Favorite Actor Won’t Be in Avengers: Doomsday
Actress Famke Janssen recently spoke about why she will not be a part of Avengers: Doomsday. Janssen played the role of Jean Grey in the original X-Men movies for 20th Century Fox. While many of her former co-stars are returning for the upcoming Marvel movie, Janssen previously revealed that Marvel Studios has not contacted her about reprising her role.
Famke Janssen elaborates on not being in Avengers: Doomsday
Famke Janssen recently sat down for a chat with Kristian Harloff in which she revealed why she would not join the cast of Avengers: Doomsday as her X-Men character.
In the interview, Harloff asked Janssen if she sees herself playing Jean Grey again in the upcoming Avengers movies. The actress said, “I don’t tend to look back at anything I’ve done. I tend to look forward. And the position that I’m in right now, [with] this incredible learning curve that I went through on Amsterdam Empire by being executive producer and costume designer on my clothes, and doing a music video in which I sing and dance and all of these added elements, it’s hard for me now to just look back and worry, or think about a part where I get a few lines. It just doesn’t seem that interesting to me.”
Janssen added, “I would not be asked back on Doomsday, or somewhere else, with that type of input. That’s not what they want from me.” Furthermore, she conveyed that she is inclined towards having a more creative role when working on a project. However, Janssen said that she is “not opposed to doing anything that’s just being part of a fun ensemble.”
While talking to Entertainment Weekly in October 2025, Janssen shared that questions about Avengers: Doomsday are frequent whenever she has interviews. She said, “Every time I do an interview, it’s mentioned. Every interview I do, that will come up, and of everything I say, that is going to be the only thing that’s gonna be printed.”
