Guillermo del Toro’s Verdict on Avatar 3 Isn’t Surprising at All
In the build-up to the release of Avatar 3, acclaimed filmmaker and James Cameron‘s long-time friend, Guillermo del Toro, has shared his review of the much-awaited threequel. The Mexican author and director, who is currently running promotions for his recently released horror flick Frankenstein, revealed in an interview that he had seen Avatar: Fire and Ash, noting that the movie is a masterpiece, just like its predecessors.
Guillermo del Toro says Avatar: Fire and Ash will surprise many people
While speaking to the Konbini Vidéo Club, Guillermo del Toro shed light on the brotherly bond he shares with fellow filmmaking legend James Cameron, all the while sharing his assessment of the upcoming Avatar 3.
“He’s been dreaming about it since I met him. He was already talking about Avatar in the 90s,” the 61-year-old artist remarked.
He then opened up about what fans can expect from Part 3 of Cameron’s fan-favorite sci-fi franchise, stating, “I’ve seen the three Avatars. They are absolute masterpieces for me. I know where it’s going and I think it’s going to surprise a lot of people […] I can’t say anything about [the third], but I can say very clearly that there are very few Americans that have created a full mythology. You have [George] Lucas (Star Wars). You have the entire Wizard of Oz mythology with Frank Baum. Jim is creating that with Avatar, and he’s going to take you places.”
Guillermo del Toro’s evaluation sits in line with his review of the second Avatar movie, which came out in 2022. Following its release, the filmmaker took to his X (formerly Twitter) profile to commend Cameron’s efforts, writing, “A staggering achievement- AVATAR TWOW is chokefull of majestic Vistas and emotions at an epic, epic scale. A master at thepeak of his powers…”
Avatar 3, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, is scheduled to hit theaters on December 19, 2025.
