Resident Evil Set Photos Offer First Look at Weapons Director’s Horror Movie
Some new Resident Evil set photos have emerged online.
Weapons director Zach Cregger is now working on a new Resident Evil movie that will arrive in 2026 from Sony Pictures Releasing. Based on Capcom’s video game series of the same name, the film will star Austin Abrams, Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson.
Shared on Twitter by @SilentKatS, some new Resident Evil set photos give fans their first look at Raccoon City. While they don’t give away too much in terms of plot, it does reveal that the movie will seemingly have a winter setting.

What else do we know about the new Resident Evil movie?
Cregger previously told Fangoria that his Resident Evil movie, which is filming in Prague, won’t be a direct adaptation of the games.
“I’m not telling Leon’s story,” he said. “You know what I mean? I’m not using any of the characters from the games. I’m telling my story that exists in the world of Resident Evil 2. You could play 2 and never know that the events of my story are happening right over there, but they are…I’m following the rules, but I’m not claiming any key, canon characters because we have those in the games.”
Further story details remain under wraps at this time.
Cregger co-directed two movies with the late Trevor Moore, 2009’s Miss March and 2011’s The Civil War on Drugs, before he made Barbarian in 2022. He followed that up with Weapons, which was released in United States theaters this past August and is now available to stream on HBO Max. Cregger has confirmed that a Weapons prequel movie focused on the Aunt Gladys character is now in development.
Cregger’s Resident Evil movie will be released in United States theaters on September 18, 2026, from Sony Pictures.
