Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-Winning Fantasy Movie Gets Theatrical Rerelease

Ahead of the film’s 20th anniversary, Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning fantasy movie, Pan’s Labyrinth, will receive a theatrical rerelease.

When is the rerelease of Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-winning movie?

Cineverse has acquired Pan’s Labyrinth and plans to release the fantasy movie in theaters to honor the 20th anniversary. Cineverse’s deal for del Toro’s movie involves all North American distribution rights, including streaming, VOD, home entertainment, original content, and podcasts. The eventual theatrical rerelease will be shown on premium wide-format screens.

“Pan’s Labyrinth turns 20 years old, and in Cineverse, we have found the perfect partner to make it live again on the big screen and in new and improved home presentations,” del Toro said in a statement. “Cineverse is committed and bold, and their track record for reaching a maximum audience is magnificent. Together we will reconnect the generations that have shared the film through the years and long to experience it theatrically again.”

Set in Spain during 1944, Pan’s Labyrinth follows Ofelia, a young girl who travels with her pregnant mother to live with her new stepfather, Captain Vidal. One night, Ofelia meets a large stick insect that transforms into a fairy and leads her into a labyrinth. Ofelia meets a faun who believes she is a fairy. To prove her royalty, Ofelia must complete three daring tasks.

Pan’s Labyrinth stars Ivana Baquero as Ofelia, Sergi López as Captain Vidal, Maribel Verdú as Mercedes, Ariadna Gil as Carmen, Álex Angulo as Doctor Ferreiro, and Doug Jones as the Faun and the Pale Man.

Written, directed, and produced by del Toro, Pan’s Labyrinth opened in theaters in late 2006 and grossed over $83 million worldwide. Pan’s Labyrinth received widespread critical acclaim and made many critics’ top 10 lists that year. Nominated for six Oscars, Pan’s Labyrinth won Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Makeup.

Del Toro’s latest film, Frankenstein, streams globally on Netflix on November 7, 2025.
