What happens in the Abu: The Giant Monster trailer?

The exclusive Abu: The Giant Monster trailer sees a young girl, Zaara, receive a lizard-like creature for her birthday from her father. She quickly takes a liking to the creature, whom she names Abu, and believes that the two of them will be best friends forever.

Things take a turn for the worse, however, when this creature is exposed to some chemical pollution and grows to the size of a building. A now-older Zaara must find a way to save her beloved pet before some trigger-happy government officials attempt to kill it in order to prevent any kind of major disaster.

The official synopsis reads, “A monster appears in a dam near the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The monster, Abu, is Zaara’s ‘pet.’ A pet that mutated due to chemical pollution. Zaara and Sofian join forces to save Abu from being eliminated by Lt. Fayyad Noah, who is assigned by the National Security Council to kill the monster. Will Abu be saved?”

Abu: The Giant Monster is directed by Ramdan Che Hassan, who co-wrote the script alongside Fakhry Zaen and Lakun Layar. The cast of the movie includes Sophia Albarakbah, Jaa Suzuran, Afieq Shazwan, and Zalif Sidek, among others.

Abu: The Giant Monster was released in theaters in Malaysia this past September. It is eyeing international audiences at this time.
