Wonder Woman 1984 Director on Whether She’ll Direct DCU’s Reboot Movie

Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins recently revealed whether she wants to direct the reboot in James Gunn’s DCU. Jenkins directed Gal Gadot for both the original 2017 blockbuster and its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984. While a third film was initially planned, it was called off in December 2022 following a leadership change at the studio.

Patty Jenkins on if she’ll do more superhero and Wonder Woman movies

Patty Jenkins, who gave fans two Wonder Woman films with Gal Gadot in the titular role, recently revealed whether she will return to direct the reboot for the DCU.

While speaking to M.C.U.N. recently, Jenkins was asked if she would return to direct the Themyscira project for the DCU. She replied, “You know what, you never say never because I love Wonder Woman. But, at the moment, I am so excited with what I am doing, and it’s always good to do something new.”

She added, “I loved making superhero movies…you never know, but I am having a good time.”

DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has not yet provided many concrete updates regarding the script or casting of the DCU’s upcoming Wonder Woman project. However, in the last update, he shared that it is in active development. He spoke about the Wonder Woman project, officially titled Paradise Lost, at a DC event in February 2025 and stated, “Paradise Lost is totally still important, and we’re working heavily on it. It just seems to be going pretty well.” Moreover, Gunn’s fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran also added, “The pilot’s being written right now.” (via Comicbook.com)

Gunn was asked in July 2025 if he would go for a TV actress when casting the role of Wonder Woman, similar to the casting of Milly Alcock for Supergirl. To this, he responded, “Nope. And l’d never in a million years look for a major role based on whether they did TV, films, or whatever. It’s all about the casting. I didn’t cast Milly because of her past, but because she was the best one for the role.”
