James Gunn Points Out Major Error With Sabrina Carpenter’s Wonder Woman Outfit Post
DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is not sparing anyone who misidentifies any member of the comic book juggernaut’s extensive character library. In a recent social media interaction, the filmmaker corrected a major media outlet after it inaccurately described Sabrina Carpenter‘s recent Wonder Woman look as “Superwoman.“

On October 31, Sabrina Carpenter commenced her Halloween Short n’ Spooky show at Madison Square Garden in New York in style as she unveiled a comic-accurate Wonder Woman outfit after setting foot on the stage, draped in a glittery sheet.
However, while reporting the update via its Threads’ profile, Variety wrongfully categorized Carpenter’s look as a Superwoman imitation, writing, “#Sabrina Carpenter sings ‘Manchild’ while dressed as Superwoman in NYC.”
As it happened, the post incidentally caught the attention of James Gunn, who is currently working on a Wonder Woman movie for the DCU. In classic Gunn-style, the director pointed out Variety’s mistake without hesitation, hilariously writing, “‘Superwoman’?!”
Complete with red boots, a golden tiara, a pair of golden bracelets, as well as the iconic Lasso of Truth, Carpenter’s red-and-blue cosplay was clearly an ode to Lynda Carter’s appearance as Princess Diana of Themyscira in her 1976 live-action series. Despite the accuracy of Carpenter’s costume, many on the internet criticized her blonde look as Wonder Woman is primarily a brunette.
In response, Carter herself came to the “Espresso” singer’s defence, with a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter). The Hollywood veteran noted, “I see this little argument about Wonder Woman being brunette… Reminder! Wonder Woman is within all of us, and sometimes, she has blonde hair like @SabrinaAnnLynn!”
Notably, Carpenter’s performance of her hit single “Manchild” while dressed as Wonder Woman also featured her background dancers wearing distinctive costumes, including one who donned a Storm outfit. Additionally, the 26-year-old entertainer sported a plethora of other costumes throughout her set, including a Flintstones ensemble and a Barbie look.
