The Running Man Star on Movie’s 1 Similarity With Guardians of the Galaxy
Actor Lee Pace has revealed a surprising connection between his upcoming action-thriller, The Running Man, and the blockbuster Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. After all, it is a reminder of a previous relationship, character arc, and more.
Lee Pace on how The Running Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are similar
In The Running Man, Lee Pace plays Evan McCone, a ruthless leader of assassins hired to hunt down contestants in a deadly reality TV show. Josh Brolin plays Dan Killian, the manipulative producer of that same show. According to Pace, their onscreen relationship mirrors that of Ronan the Accuser and Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
“Twice in a row I’m running nasty errands for Josh Brolin,” Pace shared with ScreenRant. “The thing is, this is the second movie as well where we have scenes together and we never see each other on set. We film at different times. We only ever meet at premieres and these things. Very funny.”
He explained that, just like Ronan served Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his new character, Evan, essentially works under Brolin’s ruthless mastermind in The Running Man. Furthermore, Pace praised Brolin’s take on the character of Killian, calling it darkly unpredictable: “I love what Josh brings to this character. He brings such a slimy, kind of manipulative energy — he’s just hard to predict what’s truthful. I mean, nothing’s truthful, is the point.”
A remake of the 1987 film and Stephen King’s 1982 novel, The Running Man centers on Ben Richards, a desperate man who joins a televised death game to earn money for his family. Played by Glen Powell, Ben must survive 30 days while being hunted by killers like Evan, all for the entertainment of a bloodthirsty audience.
In addition, the film explores themes of media exploitation, survival, and moral decay. It is similar to the control and manipulation dynamics seen in Guardians of the Galaxy between Thanos and Ronan.
It is scheduled to release on November 14, 2025.
