Netflix Actively Looking Into Buying WB After Paramount Bids Rejected
Zack Snyder fans are feeling somewhat hopeful after Netflix has emerged as a potential buyer for DC.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Paramount’s David Ellison made a $20-per-share bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns DC Studios. The company ultimately dismissed the bid; however, the company now seems to be entertaining more offers similar to the one made by Paramount.
What do we know about the Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery situation?
Per Deadline, the Netflix streaming service has now “retained financial advisory firm Moelis & Co to explore a potential bid” for Warner Bros.
Netflix doesn’t appear to have made an official offer for Warner Bros. Discovery at this point in time; rather, they are “looking into” the possibility of making a move.
This goes against what Netflix co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos said earlier this month when asked if the company was interested in looking into purchasing Warner Bros. Discovery.
“You have to do that by the hard work of developing those capabilities in the trenches day to day. You don’t get there simply by buying another company that is also still developing those same capabilities,” Peters said.
Sarandos added, “We’ve been very clear in the past that we have no interest in owning legacy media networks, so there is no change there.”
While the situation is very fluid, fans of Snyder’s DCEU movies are hoping that, if Netflix were to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, the streaming service would restore the Snyderverse and continue exploring what comes next for that shared universe after Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Following the creation of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, many Snyder fans have pleaded with Netflix to acquire the rights to Snyder’s DC films.
If Netflix were to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, there’s no guarantee that this would happen. Ellison previously said that, if Paramount were to merge with Warner Bros., they would “keep the creative teams of the two studios,” meaning Gunn and Safran would stay on as co-CEOs and co-chairmen of DC Studios. On that note, many aren’t convinced that a Netflix sale would result in the Snyderverse returning.
