Black Panther: Damson Idris Is All Smiles When Asked About MCU Rumor

Several actors have been rumored to potentially take over the role of Black Panther. One had a coy response to the rumors in a recent interview.

What did Damson Idris say about potentially playing Black Panther?

Damson Idris recently spoke with Time at an event, and was asked about the rumors regarding his potential name being in the mix to play Black Panther. Idris was asked if he could say anything, and if he’d even take the role if offered it. Idris couldn’t help but smile, but didn’t say anything that might get him into trouble.

“No, no, I don’t know anything about it,” said Idris as he laughed, before nodding that they could potentially talk about it later down the line.

Rumors regarding the future of Black Panther in the MCU have been running rampant for some time. Earlier this year, Jeff Sneider of The InSneider said he believes he knows Marvel Studios has already eyed select actors to play T’Challa, the role formerly played by the late Chadwick Boseman.

Sneider noted he doesn’t believe that Damson Idris, a popular choice amongst fans, will be given the role, but instead believes the guy who could end up getting the role is David Jonsson, who starred in Alien: Romulus and is set to star in the upcoming The Longest Walk. Since then, though, no other rumors have popped up, with Idris remaining a popular choice amongst fans should the role be recast.

It is known that Shuri/Black Panther star Letitia Wright will be in Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives in December 2026 and is currently in production. Winston Duke’s M’Baku and Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s Namor, the latter of whom was the main villain of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will also star in the film.
