Call of Duty: Director Found, Taylor Sheridan Writing Movie

The long-awaited Call of Duty movie has taken a big step forward.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest video game franchises of all time. It originated in 2003 and was originally focused on a World War II setting; however, there have now been 21 games in the main series in total, with another one — Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 — scheduled to launch on November 14, 2025.

For years, there have been whispers and rumors about a Call of Duty feature film. It wasn’t until last month that it was officially announced that Paramount Pictures and Activision were finally going to make the project come to fruition.

Who is directing the Call of Duty movie?

Now, Paramount and Activision have announced that the Call of Duty movie will be written, directed, and produced by Peter Berg.

Berg’s filmography includes 1998’s Very Bad Things, 2003’s The Rundown, 2004’s Friday Night Lights, 2007’s The Kingdom, 2008’s Hancock, 2012’s Battleship, 2013’s Lone Survivor, 2016’s Deepwater Horizon, 2016’s Patriots Day, 2018’s Mile 22, and 2020’s Spenser Confidential.

Writing the script with Berg is Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame. The two of them previously collaborated on 2016’s Hell or High Water and 2017’s Wind River, both of which were directed by Sheridan and produced by Berg.

The news comes shortly after it was reported that Sheridan was leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal once his existing film and television commitments conclude.

David Glasser will also serve as a producer on the Call of Duty movie. Plot details remain under wraps at this time, leaving it unclear if they’re adapting any of the specific stories or characters that have been in the games or if it’ll be an entirely new story. There’s even the possibility that zombies could show up in the film, as that’s a popular mode that mainly shows up in the Black Ops games. It’s also not been announced if the movie will be set in the past, present, or future.

The Call of Duty movie does not yet have a release date.
