The first reactions to Wicked: For Good are finally out, and it seems fans of Oz have a lot to celebrate. The sequel continues where Wicked left off, adapting the second half of the original Broadway musical. It follows Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) as they face the consequences of their choices and the ultimate test of friendship. The returning cast also includes Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz, Marissa Bode as Nessarose, and Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible.

First reactions suggest Wicked: For Good captures the heart and grandeur of the musical while retaining its emotional core. One viewer wrote, “If Wicked part one was faithful to the blueprint of the stage, Wicked: For Good builds out the world to create a full and different… and extremely emotional version of act 2. It’s a thrill ride and a heartbreaker and it’s sexy and everything you want it to be.”

The performances are also receiving standing ovations in these early reviews. Erivo continues to be hailed as “magnificent,” but Grande is generating particularly feverish praise. One reaction claimed, “Get ready for Ariana Grande as she takes this performance to the next level and is a tour de force.” The buzz is so strong that another viewer predicted, “Ariana Grande is gonna win??! that Oscar.” Jonathan Bailey’s return as Fiyero is also drawing acclaim, with one fan noting that he “continues as the heartthrob of a lifetime.”

If the first Wicked was about discovering who you are, Wicked: For Good is about what it costs to stay true to yourself. With rave reactions, tearful audiences, and strong Oscar buzz, it seems the Emerald City will be shining even brighter this November.

Wicked: For Good hits theaters on November 21, 2025.
