WB Rescues Star-Studded Movie Netflix Canceled

Two years after Netflix decided to exit Nancy MeyersParis Paramount movie, The Parent Trap director’s next romantic comedy has finally found a new home at Warner Bros. Pictures. In 2023, Netflix left the star-studded project due to disagreements over its budget. Meyers reportedly wanted a $150 million budget for her feature directorial comeback, while the streamer could only commit to a $130 million budget.

According to World of Reel, Warner Bros. has reportedly signed on to finance the movie, seemingly confirming that the studio will be granting Meyers the preferred budget. However, the outlet’s sources suggest that the final budget might not be $150 million, but instead may cost the studio around $100 million. This project serves as Meyers’ long-awaited feature directorial comeback after directing Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro in the 2015 dramedy The Intern.

What do we know about Nancy Meyers’ new star-studded movie?

Before the Netflix cancellation, Owen Wilson (Zoolander) and Michael Fassbender (X-Men films) were initially attached to lead Paris Paramount, along with Vicky Cristina Barcelona stars Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz. At the moment, it’s unknown if they’re still starring in the movie because it has been over two years since Netflix left the project. The outlet claimed that Meyers is currently recasting some of the roles. Production is expected to begin in early 2026 in Los Angeles.

Paris Paramount will be written, produced, and directed by Meyers, best known for her work in classics including Private Benjamin, The Parent Trap, The Father of the Bride, What Women Want, and Something’s Gotta Give. The movie is being described as a semi-autobiography movie about a filmmaker and a producer, who are exes and former collaborators, who must once again work together for their next great hit.

“The film follows a talented young writer-director who falls in love with a producer, with the pair making several successful films before calling it quits romantically and professionally,” reads the movie’s initial synopsis. “The two are forced back together, however, when a great new project arises, and they find themselves teamed up again and having to deal with high stakes and volatile stars.”
