The trailer highlights the rise of K-pop, and more specifically, how groups are able to translate their incredibly choreographed acts from music videos to live performances. The documentary then teases the secret behind the rise in popularity of K-pop and how fans are looking to become stars themselves.

“In his electrifying and revealing documentary set against the backdrop of the burgeoning global K-pop girl group phenomenon, Kiviat embarks on a journey to examine whether or not the widely accepted industry practice of utilizing recorded vocal backing tracks at live and televised performances amounts to lip-syncing,” reads the official description of the movie. “Secondarily, Kiviat looks at the genre’s current management and training structure, which meticulously trains K-pop hopefuls for years as they hone their craft, performance skills and overall presentation in hopes of becoming the next K-Pop girl group phenomenon along the lines of Blackpink, Aespa, ITZY, I-dle (formerly G-IDLE), NewJeans, and more.”

The Rising Girls of K-Pop: Confidential is directed by veteran network television investigative producer Robert Kiviat, who became enamored with the world of K-pop and wanted to explore its origins. “Once I became aware of how fresh, fun, and exciting the massive K-Pop girl group wave truly was, and recognized its obvious impact on pop music globally, I wanted to explore what was driving its momentum,” Kiviat said.
