The Social Network 2 Set Video Recreates January 6 Insurrection

A video has surfaced from the set of The Social Reckoning, also known as The Social Network 2, and it looks like director Aaron Sorkin has reenacted the January 6 insurrection.

What is seen in The Social Network 2 set video?

The Social Reckoning reportedly began filming earlier this week in downtown Vancouver. One of the first things that Sorkin filmed for his new movie was the January 6 riots, when in 2021 rioters and insurrectionists stormed the U.S. Capitol to prevent the government from formalizing Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.

In a video posted on X by Ari Hoffman, the January 6 reenactment features many rioters storming the steps as security attempts to end the insurrection. According to Vulture, the Vancouver Art Gallery is being used as a stand-in for the U.S. Capitol. Witnesses on the scene spotted numerous extras holding American flags and wearing MAGA hats.

The Social Reckoning is the follow-up to The Social Network, the Oscar-winning drama about Mark Zuckerberg and the creation of Facebook. The Social Reckoning tells the true story of the 2021 Facebook Files, where engineer Frances Haugen teamed with the Wall Street Journal’s Jeff Horwitz to expose the company’s most dangerous secrets.

Oscar winner Mikey Madison will star as Frances Haugen, while Emmy winner Jeremy Allen White will play Jeff Horwitz. Jeremy Strong will play Mark Zuckerberg, replacing Jesse Eisenberg, who played the Facebook co-founder in The Social Network.

The Social Reckoning’s ensemble includes Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, Billy Magnussen, Betty Gilpin, Gbenga Akinnagbe, and Anna Lambe.

Sorkin is directing The Social Reckoning from his own script. Producers include Sorkin, Todd Black, Peter Rice, and Stuart Besser. Sorkin won an Oscar for penning the screenplay to The Social Network, which David Fincher directed.

Sony will release The Social Reckoning on October 9, 2026.
