Jesse Plemons has addressed his upcoming portrayal of Plutarch in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, in which Plemons was joined by Emma Stone, the actor reflected on taking over the role from the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, whom he worked with on The Master. Horowitz asked whether knowing and working with Philip Seymour Hoffman might have influenced his decision to take on the role.

Plemons admitted the connection initially made him hesitant to accept the part. The actor said, “And it was one I don’t know if this makes sense, but it was actually one of the things that made me question if I wanted to do it.”

Expressing his deep admiration for Hoffman, Plemons said he has “such respect and admiration for him.” However, despite his initial hesitation, Plemons explained that he was ultimately drawn to numerous aspects of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. He noted in particular the script, the director’s vision, and the ensemble cast. He said, “I think I just decided, you know what? I want to do it. I like the part, and I like the script, and I like the director and the cast. So, yeah, here we go.”

Philip Seymour Hoffman played Plutarch in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and the two Mockingjay films. Plemons will portray a younger version of the same character in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
