It Follows 2 Gets Major Update From Maika Monroe

Longlegs star Maika Monroe has finally opened up about It Follows 2, revealing the current status of the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s cult classic horror movie. In the first installment, Monroe played the role of a carefree college student named Jay pursued by a shape-shifting entity that she can only see.

What is the new update for It Follows 2?

During a recent interview with Discussing Film, Monroe confirmed that she has already read the latest script, teasing that the story for It Follows 2 will be “very different” from the first installment. In addition, she also shared new details about the sequel’s plot and potential production start date.

“I was sent the script and I thought it was incredible. It’s also very different from the original. I felt the original was a litle more heightened and dramatic, and this I think is really quite grounded,” Monroe said.

She continued, “(The sequel) follows the story of these two women that are just mentally dealing with a lot. I thought it was a really interesting take on it. Fingers crossed it happens, next year is the rumor.”

It Follows 2 will once again be directed and produced by returning filmmaker David Robert Mitchell. Monroe is expected to reprise her character Jay in the sequel, which will reportedly take place a decade after the events of the first movie. It is a production by NEON, with Jake Weiner, Chris Bender, David Kaplan, Erik Rommesmo, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith serving as its producers.

The original movie was directed and written by Mitchell. Besides Monroe, the cast also included Keir Gilchrist, Olivia Luccardi, Daniel Zovatto, Lili Sepe, Debbie Williams, and more. During its theatrical run, the movie earned a worldwide gross of over $23 million at the box office. Since its debut, the movie has maintained its Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, as it currently holds a Tomatometer rating of 95% based on 271 reviews.
