Walton Goggins & James Cameron Join Painter Movie From John Wick Creator
Walton Goggins and James Cameron are joining Prey breakout Amber Midthunder in the upcoming action movie Painter.
According to a new report from THR, Goggins will star opposite Midthunder in the role, replacing the previously announced Alan Ritchson, who bowed out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. As for Cameron, he’ll be joining the film as an executive producer after the film was acquired by 20th Century Studios.
What do we know about Painter?
Painter is directed by Logan stunt coordinator Garrett Warren from a screenplay written by John Wick scribe Derek Kolstad. The story revolves around a young woman’s mission to rescue her kidnapped father. Now, she must use every skill she learned from her training when she was younger in order to save him.
“Painter will be a seminal action hero film, making Midthunder into this generation’s Sarah Connor (Terminator),” Infrared president Drew Simon when the film was originally announced last year. “We loved [Derek] Kolstad’s high-octane script, and we know with Garrett Warren at the helm this film will kickstart an exciting new franchise in the world of action.”
Goggins last film role came in 2024’s Queen of the Ring, The Uninvited, and The Luckiest Man in America. In 2025, he starred in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, and also plays The Ghoul in Amazon’s Fallout series, which is returning for a second season later this year.
