Avengers: Doomsday Writer on Who He’d Cast Glen Powell as in the MCU
Avengers: Doomsday writer Michael Waldron knows who Glen Powell should play in the MCU.
Waldron is one of the writers who worked on the script for Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which has wrapped production and arrives in United States theaters next year. Prior to that, Waldron was a writer on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while he also did some uncredited work on Thor: Love and Thunder and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Who does Michael Waldron think Glen Powell should play in the MCU?
Having recently created the Hulu sports comedy series Chad Powers alongside Powell, Waldron told The Playlist he believes the Top Gun: Maverick star would be an excellent choice when it comes to casting Richard Rider.
“He’d be a pretty good Nova,” Waldron commented.
When Richard Rider will actually arrive in the MCU remains up in the air at this time. There was a Nova show that was being planned for a time; however, Deadline reported this past February that it was no longer a priority for Marvel Television, and there haven’t been many firm updates since. There has been talk that it could still be happening — or, potentially, that it could be turned into a movie — though whether or not it will actually come to fruition remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, in addition to Chad Powers, Powell will soon be seen playing Ben Richards in Edgar Wright’s The Running Man. Based on the 1982 novel by Stephen King, that movie will be released in United States theaters on November 14, 2025.
As for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios has given it a December 18, 2026, release date. It will be followed by a sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, that arrives on December 17, 2027, while Spider-Man: Brand New Day will come before both of those movies, as that will be released on July 31, 2026.
