The Jetsons Live-Action Movie Finds George Jetson Actor

The Jetsons live-action movie may have found its lead actor.

Produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, The Jetsons premiered on ABC in 1962. Created as a Space Age counterpart to The Flintstones, The Jetsons followed the titular family — George (voiced by George O’Hanlon), Jane (Penny Singleton), Elroy (Daws Butler), Judy (Janet Waldo), and Astro the Space Mutt (Don Messick) — on various misadventures involving aliens, machines, and more.

Who is being eyed to play George Jetson in The Jetsons??

Now, per TheWrap, it’s been revealed that Jim Carrey is being eyed to lead a live-action The Jetsons movie for Warner Bros. Pictures.

Carrey is known for starring in movies like 1994’s Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, 1994’s Dumb and Dumber, 1998’s The Truman Show, 2004’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2011’s Mr. Popper’s Penguins, and more. In recent years, he’s been playing Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog films, the most recent being 2024’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Given that Carrey is being eyed for the lead part in the movie, it’s presumed he’s circling the George Jetson role; however, it’s still “early days” on the project, and no formal deals have yet been signed.

Colin Trevorrow is also in talks to direct the film and co-write the script alongside Joe Epstein. Trevorrow is best known for directing 2015’s Jurassic World and 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, while he was also a writer on Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and was attached to helm 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker before J.J. Abrams took over. Beyond that, Trevorrow directed a 2004 documentary called Reality Show, 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed, and 2017’s The Book of Henry.

Further information regarding the live-action The Jetsons movies remains under wraps at this time. A release date has not yet been set.
