Man of Tomorrow’s Nicholas Hoult Teases Lex Luthor Surprises in DCU Movie
Superman star Nicholas Hoult recently opened up a bit about the upcoming sequel, Man of Tomorrow, and how his character Lex Luthor fits into it.
What did Nicholas Hoult say about Man of Tomorrow?
Speaking to GQ in a recent interview, Hoult said that he hadn’t gotten a chance to read James Gunn’s script for Man of Tomorrow yet, but would “hopefully” be doing so soon. Hoult was excited to step back into Luthor’s shoes, though, as he feels it’s a great chance to subvert expectations when it comes to his place in the DCU.
“Also, I loved working with James Gunn. I think he’s a wonderful director and creative person and mind. I just spoke to him a week or two ago about the sequel and his idea for that,” Hoult said. “So I’m really excited to play that character again because I feel like there’s a lot to explore with him and expectations to subvert. It’s going to be exciting to step back into those shoes again.”
The Lex Luthor actor also opened up about how fun it was getting to play a villain due to the freedom it gives him. “I do really enjoy it, I suppose there’s a freedom in playing a villain because there’s nothing you can do that could be wrong. It’s really interesting to try and get into the mindset and psyche of those people and their obsessive nature and their belief system or ideology.”
As of now, little is known about Man of Tomorrow, outside of the fact that it will release on July 9, 2027, and that Corenswet, Hoult, and Rachel Brosnahan are all set to return for the movie.
The Man of Tomorrow is one of Superman’s many nicknames; however, there have also been a handful of DC comic runs that have incorporated the ‘Man of Tomorrow’ name into their official title. There was also a 2020 animated movie titled Superman: Man of Tomorrow, but whether or not the DCU movie will be pulling from any of this source material remains unclear at this time.
Superman is now available to rent or purchase on digital outlets such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, and more.
The synopsis for the movie reads, “Superman, DC Studios’ first feature film to hit the big screen, is set to soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. In his signature style, James Gunn takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor, and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
