Star Wars: Why Mia Goth Was Cast in Starfighter Revealed

Mia Goth has joined the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Starfighter. Director Shawn Levy recently explained why he cast Goth in his Star Wars adventure.

What was the reason Mia Goth was cast in Star Wars: Starfighter?

In a profile with Elle, Levy shared the main reason why he decided to cast a unique talent like Goth for a role in Star Wars: Starfighter.

“We needed a singular actor to play a fiercely complex new character within the Star Wars galaxy,” Levy said. “Mia is a unicorn of an actress. It’s not like you could ever say, ‘We need a Mia Goth type,’ because there is no type. There’s just Mia.”

Goth is reportedly playing one of the villains in Starfighter. While many of the plot details remain under wraps, Goth teased the challenges of her role and praised the “great” script.

“It’s really intense, but I love it,” Goth explained. “I’m being pushed in a way that I’ve never been pushed before . . . This is a completely separate film, not a prequel. It’s its own thing, with new characters. And it’s a great script, a really great script.”

Star Wars: Starfighter is headlined by Ryan Gosling, who plays a character tasked with protecting a young boy played by Flynn Gray. Matt Smith, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams also star.

Levy directs Star Wars: Starfighter from a screenplay by Jonathan Tropper. The film is a standalone project set five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker.

Star Wars: Starfighter opens in theaters on May 28, 2027.

As for Goth, she is one of the stars of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, which Netflix will release on November 7, 2025. Goth also has a role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which opens theatrically in July 2026.
