Long-Awaited DC Movie Finally Gets Key Update
DC Studios has offered a promising update on its upcoming Swamp Thing movie. Despite recent delays and reshuffling within the DCU’s release schedule, a new update suggests that the long-awaited film is still moving forward. The confirmation has sparked excitement among fans after months of uncertainty.
James Mangold is still invested in DC’s Swamp Thing movie
James Mangold’s long-awaited Swamp Thing movie remains on DC Studios’ slate. This comes after speculation that Mangold’s new deal with Paramount Pictures may have sidelined the project. DC Studios’ co-CEO James Gunn recently clarified in an interview with Rolling Stone that Mangold is “still invested” in the adaptation and that his agreement with Paramount will not affect his other commitments.
During the interview, Gunn directly addressed whether Mangold’s recent partnership with Paramount would impact his work on Swamp Thing. He confirmed that it would not, firmly stating, “No, no, it doesn’t.” Gunn went on to emphasize that the project is still moving forward. He said, “We’ve talked to him. He’s still invested. So we’ll see. Some things take a long time. We’ll see what happens.”
Mangold was one of the first big filmmakers linked to the DCU in early 2023, shortly after Gunn announced the universe’s first chapter, Gods and Monsters. Known for both award-winning biographical drama films, such as Walk the Line and Ford v Ferrari, and blockbuster franchise movies like Logan, Mangold was reportedly in talks to write and direct Swamp Thing. However, his schedule has kept him busy with other commitments, like A Complete Unknown and High Side, the first project under his Paramount deal.
Several projects in DC Studios’ first slate of films and TV shows have seen production delays and scheduling changes. However, Gunn has now confirmed that the Swamp Thing is not one of the projects that have been shelved or canceled.
