X-Men’s James McAvoy Weighs in on His Replacement for Marvel Reboot Movie
A new X-Men reboot is reportedly taking shape as Marvel Studios prepares to introduce mutants into the MCU. While official details remain under wraps, early reports suggest the project will mark a fresh beginning for the iconic superhero team following Avengers: Secret Wars.
James McAvoy says ‘Colman Domingo sounds amazing’ for X-Men’s Professor X
James McAvoy and Elliot Page addressed rumors about new actors taking over their X-Men roles during a reunion panel at New York Comic Con 2025. The pair, who played Professor Charles Xavier and Kitty Pryde respectively, were asked about reports suggesting Colman Domingo and Bella Ramsey could join the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s upcoming X-Men reboot.
Moderator Josh Horowitz mentioned the circulating names, saying, “Depending on what you read on the internet, I’ve heard Colman Domingo. I’ve heard Bella Ramsey. I’ve heard a lot of different names.” Page responded, “I mean, yes, absolutely. I don’t really follow [the casting rumors], but they sound fantastic. I mean, it’d be just so exciting to see people do a take on a new iteration [of X-Men]” (via Entertainment Weekly).
McAvoy added his thoughts on Domingo possibly portraying the telepathic leader, stating, “Look, I’m excited to see what happens next. I was a fan before I was an employee and I’ll be a fan again! You want it to be…I just can’t wait for it to be…Oh no, that was going to sound bad. It’s going to put a lot of pressure on people. Colman Domingo sounds amazing, though!”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that Marvel will recast the X-Men after Avengers: Secret Wars. Director Jake Schreier, known for Thunderbolts*, will direct the project, which Marvel has described as a “youth-focused reboot.”
Page appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand and Days of Future Past, while McAvoy starred as a younger Xavier beginning with First Class. Both expressed enthusiasm for the franchise’s evolution and for the new generation of actors expected to lead the MCU’s mutant era.
