During his appearance at New York Comic Con 2025, he reflected on his long-awaited return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Shang-Chi. He also hinted at possible scenes alongside several legendary X-Men actors.

Simu Liu is fueling fan excitement for Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday with new comments about the movie. At the New York Comic Con 2025, the Shang-Chi star reflected on what it was like to get the call to join Avengers: Doomsday. He said, “I mean, what an incredible call to get.”
The actor said that he went through “many waves of excitement” when he discovered who else would be joining the film. Liu mentioned that while he had met some of the cast members before, others were new to him. He added, “But each and every one of them just iconic, iconic people.”
Without revealing too much, Liu hinted that he may have filmed scenes with some legendary X-Men stars. He noted, “I think this is public now, but like Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, just people who I grew up watching and idolizing.” However, he kept the story details tightly under wraps.
With a grin, Liu playfully hinted that working with the X-Men stars “may or may not have been even better,” adding that it’s something he would probably say if he were actually part of the movie. During the same panel, the Barbie actor humorously responded to a question about his long-awaited MCU return, saying, “It’s about goddamn time,” before laughing and clarifying that he was joking.
Avengers: Doomsday completed filming last month. It is being directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, who are also set to helm Avengers: Secret Wars. The film will see several X-Men actors reprising their roles, including Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming. Channing Tatum will also return as Gambit following his debut in Deadpool & Wolverine.
