Amanda Seyfried Movie The Testament of Ann Lee Sets Release Date After Oscars Buzz
Searchlight Pictures has announced the release date for The Testament of Ann Lee, the upcoming musical drama led by Academy Award nominee Amanda Seyfried as the founder of the religious sect known as the Shakers.
The movie had its world premiere a month ago at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival, where Seyfried immediately earned praise from critics. Because of this, some predict that her performance may potentially secure her a Best Actress nomination in the next Academy Awards.
When is the release date for The Testament of Ann Lee?
The Testament of Ann Lee is scheduled to arrive in select theaters on December 25, just in time for the awards season. Since its world premiere, the movie has already received a Tomatometer rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes.
“In the film, Seyfried stars as the Shakers’ irrepressible leader, who espoused gender and social equality while believing herself to be the female incarnation of Christ. The Testament of Ann Lee thrillingly imagines the ecstasy and agony of Ann Lee and her followers’ conviction and commitment to her own vision of utopia,” reads the official synopsis.
The movie is directed by Mona Fastvold (The World to Come, The Brutalist), who co-wrote the screenplay with Brady Corbet. The ensemble cast includes Thomasin McKenzie as Mary, Lewis Pullman as William Lee, Tim Blake Nelson, Christopher Abbott as Abraham, Stacy Martin as Jane Wardley, Matthew Beard, Viola Prettejohn, and more. It is produced by Corbet, Fastvold, Andrew Morrison, Joshua Horsfield, Viktória Petrányi, Gregory Jankilevitsch, Klaudia Śmieja-Rostworowska, Lillian LaSalle, and Mark Lampert.
