Anemone Trailer Previews Daniel Day-Lewis’ Long-Awaited Acting Comeback

Focus Features has finally shared the official trailer for Anemone, the upcoming family drama led by Academy Award winner Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom Thread). This marks the acclaimed actor’s acting comeback after taking a hiatus for nearly a decade. The movie will have its world premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival. Afterward, it will arrive in select theaters on October 3, followed by its wide release on October 10.

“The film explores the complex and profound ties that exist between brothers, fathers, and sons,” reads the synopsis.

What happens in the Anemone trailer?

The video highlights the complicated bond between Day-Lewis and Sean Bean’s characters, who are estranged brothers struggling to deal with their past. The trailer offers a glimpse of some of the tense moments between the brothers, including Day-Lewis suddenly punching Bean in the face. The cast also includes Samantha Morton (The Walking Dead), Samuel Bottomley (Everybody’s Talking About Jamie), Safia Oakley-Green (Out of Darkness), and more.

The film is directed by Ronan Day-Lewis, who also co-wrote the screenplay with his father. The movie serves as Ronan Day-Lewis’s feature-length directorial debut. It is produced by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner, with Daniel Day-Lewis and Brad Pitt serving as executive producers.

Before his acting hiatus, Day-Lewis starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s romantic period drama Phantom Thread. For his leading performance in the 2017 movie, he received multiple acting nominations, including an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. Day-Lewis is also best known for his roles in My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln.
