Jason Statham’s Bearded Look Might Be for Sequel to R-Rated Action Hit
Jason Statham sparked buzz when he stepped out with a striking new look that immediately caught fans’ attention. The actor appeared at a high-profile event sporting a style reminiscent of his on-screen persona, prompting speculation about what it could mean for his upcoming projects. While details remain under wraps, signs point to movement on The Beekeeper 2.
Jason Statham’s bearded look could mean good news for The Beekeeper 2
Jason Statham recently sported a beard similar to the one he wore in The Beekeeper, sparking speculation that production on The Beekeeper 2 is about to begin. Amazon MGM Studios announced the sequel in February 2025 and confirmed Statham’s return as Adam Clay. Jeremy Irons will also reprise his role as Wallace Westwyld. Reports place filming in London in fall 2025 under director Timo Tjahjanto, with a release planned for 2026.
Statham attended the Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford boxing match on September 13 and gave a red carpet interview while wearing the “Beekeeper beard.” The look mirrors his character’s signature style and fueled assumptions that filming preparations are underway. Collider reported production would begin this fall, and Statham’s public appearance with the beard strengthens that timeline.
The first Beekeeper opened in January 2024 and grossed $162 million worldwide. It ranked as one of Statham’s top box office hits of the past decade outside Fast & Furious and The Meg. The film debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. box office and stayed in the top five for five consecutive weeks. Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter audience score of 92% reflected strong support from moviegoers.
Amazon MGM Studios has not confirmed an official release date for the sequel, but insiders expect a summer 2026 window. If that timeline holds, The Beekeeper 2 will compete against major titles, including Mortal Kombat II, Toy Story 5, Supergirl, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
David Ayer, director of the first film, will not return due to work on Heart of the Beast. Timo Tjahjanto, known for Nobody 2, takes over directing duties. Kurt Wimmer will return as the screenwriter.
