Why Original Fantastic Four Star Admits He Hasn’t Seen First Steps Yet

A former Fantastic Four star recently addressed the possibility of returning in Avengers: Doomsday. In a new interview while promoting The Senior, Michael Chiklis discussed whether fans could see his version of The Thing again in the Marvel universe. He also revealed why he has not yet watched Marvel Studios’ reboot The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Michael Chiklis played Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, in Fantastic Four (2005) and its 2007 sequel. He recently spoke with ComicBookMovie.com about the possibility of returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

During promotion for The Senior, he talked about an Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars appearance. He said, “You’re not going to [see me], probably. I don’t know. Every minute’s a new minute, so I shouldn’t say never. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Chiklis’ comments come after Marvel brought back Chris Evans as the Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine. He cast doubt on returning but left the possibility open.

The actor also discussed the new Marvel Studios reboot, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which introduced Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the new Thing. Chiklis admitted he has not yet seen the film, saying, “I have not had a chance to see the movie yet. I can’t believe I’m admitting that out loud, but I was supposed to go and see it with some friends of mine.” He added, “It is kind of weird for me to go. I want to go in a way that I’m not going to be questioned about it while I’m there.”

He explained that he hopes to watch it privately, sharing, “I’ll probably end up seeing it in a private screening, because I want to see it and check it out and really not have any kind of…I can’t wait to see it. I’m looking forward to it.” Chiklis admitted it can be challenging to watch a new take on a role he once played. Still, he shared his enthusiasm to see Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s version of Ben Grimm in First Steps.

The Senior, featuring Chiklis and Mike Flynt, opens in theaters on September 19.
