The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 Gets Official Title, Teaser Trailer
Nintendo and Universal Pictures gave us our first look at The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, as well as revealed the title of the highly anticipated film.
What is The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2 officially called?
During the latest Nintendo Direct on Friday, the company revealed the title of the movie and had fans excited. The title of the movie is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, a name taken from the incredibly popular 2007 game Super Mario Galaxy, which was released for the Nintendo Wii.
Like its name suggests, Super Mario Galaxy sees Mario traveling across the stars, as he tries once again to save Princess Peach and, this time, the universe, from Bowser. While it’s unclear if the movie will follow the exact story of the game, the game saw Mario traveling from planet to planet, all with different locations, characters, and terrains.
Alongside the name, Nintendo also showed off a brief first look at the movie, which you can see below:
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be a sequel to 2023’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie. That film was directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, from a screenplay written by Matthew Fogel. The film featured a star-studded cast, which included Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, who are all set to return for the sequel.
Although fans were skeptical of it ahead of its release, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a smash hit once it premiered. The film grossed $1.36 billion worldwide, and became the highest-grossing film based on a video game, the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time, and the second-highest-grossing film of 2023.
